Reference Services
The Reference Desk is the starting point for most researchers at the library whether their inquiry leads to the general collections, special collections, digital resources, or an authoritative internet site in the public domain.
The Reference Desk is managed by the library's Reference & Instructional Services Department, which is responsible for the library's reference, instruction and outreach services. Overseen by the Head of Public Services, the department includes four reference librarians and one paraprofessional staff. In addition to their work at the Reference Desk, the reference librarians deliver information literacy instruction to the Tulane community, develop outreach activities that provide research assistance and promote library resources to students and faculty outside the library building. At the Reference Desk, they are assisted by librarians drawn in from other departments in the Services Division.
