Fines & Fees
All borrowers who fail to observe regulations governing the use of library materials are subject to the following charges with a maximum fine of $20.00 per item:
- 30 cents per day
- reserve items - 60 cents per day for one-day and three-day books, and $1.00 per hour for strict 2-hour reserve.
- recalled items - $1.00 per day.
There is a three day grace period for returning items without incurring a fine. There is no grace period for recalled items. If items are returned on the fourth day or thereafter, fines will be assessed for each day overdue beginning from the first day.
When current fines reach $20.00 or more, borrowing privileges will be suspended until the fine is paid or reduced to an amount below $20.00.
When the maximum fine has been reached with no word from the borrower, the book is assumed to be lost. The borrower is charged $49.00 for the cost of the book, a $15.00 processing fee, in addition to the $20.00 maximum fine. Lost books, even if paid for or replaced, remain the property of the University and, if found, must be returned to the Library. Depending on the length of time involved, a partial refund of the cost of the book is made when a "paid" lost book is returned.
When an item is reported lost, fines will not be accrued from that date. The borrower is charged the fine at that time, if any, and the replacement and processing fees indicated above.
To protect the rights of others, readers who mutilate items will be charged full replacement and processing costs and will be subject to University disciplinary action.
All charges not collected at the Library's Circulation Desk are reported to the University Accounting Office for collection by Accounts Receivable.
Overdue Notices
The prompt return of Library materials is each borrower’s responsibility. When a book is overdue, however, the Library mails and emails as a courteous reminder, an overdue notice. Failure to receive such a notice will not be considered a reason for cancellation of fines. The Library fines and other charges collected are not retained in the Library, but are deposited in a general fund of the University. It is the responsibility of each borrower to notify the Circulation Desk directly regarding mailing address changes.
