Faculty Services: Blioxi Students
Books & Borrowing Information
Each student at the Biloxi campus will receive a Tulane ID card, which is already labeled with a library barcode. The barcode allows you to check out books from the Howard-Tilton Library.
To request a book:
- Search the library's catalog to determine if the library has the book you need.
- Fill out the Request Howard-Tilton Library items form
You may place an interlibrary loan request for any book not held by the Howard-Tilton Library by using Illiad, a Web-based interlibrary loan system for submitting, processing and tracking your requests. To open your account, place your request and read more about the service, go to the Interlibrary Loan page. On this page go to the "Submit an Interlibrary Loan Request" link when you are ready.
All books are sent by courier to the Biloxi campus facility, where students can pick them up at the front desk and also return them there when they are finished.
Books can be renewed online:- Go to the library's catalog
- Click on My Account and sign in with your barcode, found on the back of your Tulane ID card. You can see a list of books checked out and renew them with a few clicks.
To request a journal article
Journal articles are available through our online research databases. Tulane's library subscribes to over 200 databases which you can access from anywhere; however to access these you will first need to sign on to the university's proxy server using your Tulane e-mail login name and password. For information about the proxy server, see the FAQ.
Most journal articles you'll need will be available online, use the " E-journals @ Tulane" collection of full-text journal articles to get the articles you need. You should first search by the title of your journal to see if it is included in the collection and what years are available.
If you don't know in which journal an article on your topic is included or you don't have the title of any journal in your area, you may want to search on your topic in some of the full-text, multidisciplinary journal databases to which Tulane subscribes for you. Go to "Popular Databases" on our Web site.
If you have a specific subject area, you may want to go directly to "Research By Subject" and search there, although some of these databases do not provide you with full-text articles online. If you are not sure, please contact us so we can assist you, and also contact us if you are needing an article in a journal that is in the Library.
