How do I get a list of items I've checked out?
From the Library Catalog, you will need to enter your barcode number and last name. If this is entered correctly, you will see a list of items you have checked out.
How do I renew my books?
If your books are not overdue, you may renew them online through the library's catalog. From the library's homepage, click on "Manage Your Checked Out Items". You will need to enter your barcode number and last name. If this is entered correctly, you will see a list of items you have checked out, and a checkbox next to the items. Check the items you want to renew, and click "Renew".
How do I find out if I have any fines?
From the library's homepage, click on "Manage Your Checked Out Items". You will need to enter your bar code number and last name. If this is entered correctly, you will see a list of items you have checked out. If fines have been assessed, they will appear below the "Fines and Fees" heading.
How do I pay my library fines and/or fees?
If you have fines and/or fees levied by the library, please come into the library to remit payment. The circulation desk (where books are checked out, located in the 1st floor lobby) will accept cash or check only for library fines and fees. Please note that clearing your library record prior to the end of the semester may save you considerable time and hassle. After 60 days, fines and/or fees are transferred to the University Bursar. Fines then must be paid directly to the Bursar.
How do I appeal fines and/or fees?
If you wish to dispute the fines and/or fees levied to your account by the library, please fill out our online Appeals Fines & Fees form. If you have questions regarding a dispute or a claim status, please contact the circulation desk at (504) 314-1808.
How do I check out books?
If the item is listed in our catalog as located in "HT Stacks," it means it's currently owned by the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library (check the "Status" to see if it's available for borrowing). If you are a Tulane student or affiliate, you will be able to borrow books using your ID card and getting a bar code put on the back of your ID card. Bar codes are assigned at the library; please see the circulation desk for details.
If you are not a Tulane affiliate, please refer to our borrowing policies for more information.
How do I return books?
Book bins are located in the library lobby near the photocopiers on the first floor. Books may be returned to the bins. A book depository slot is also available after hours - this is located to the right of the main library entry. If the book depository slot appears full and the library is not open, please return the item the following morning and inform the circulation staff that you were unable to return the books on your previous visit.
How do I use interlibrary loan?
If your search for a book or other item in our catalog did not return a match, or library staff cannot find the item, consider using interlibrary loan.
How do I get to ERes? Or find something on reserve?
There are 2 different kinds of reserves at the library: "regular" Course Reserve, and ERes (Electronic Reserves). You'll find books and print materials in "regular" Course Reserve, and scanned articles available for online download in ERes (click to visit our ERes site). To check out items from Course Reserve, present your Tulane ID (it must have a library barcode on the back) to the Reserve library staff. (The Reserve desk is adjacent to the Circulation Desk, in the first level lobby of the library.) To view items on ERes, your professor will provide you with a password for access to your online materials, typically during the first days of class. If you have any questions regarding Reserves, contact the help desk at (504) 865-5605.
