What is TU Link?

TU Link, allows you to link from article citations in selected databases to related content that is available from the Tulane University Libraries. When you find a record in a database or periodical index, click on the TU Link button to:

  • See if the full text of the article is available online
  • Check the library catalog to see if a journal or book is in the library
  • Get assistance from a librarian

Why don't I see any TU Link buttons?

Sometimes you need to click on the actual database record in order to see the TU Link button. If there is still no button, you may be using a database that has not yet been TU Link enabled.

Why is there no full-text link to my article?

It is possible that there is no electronic full-text version available for that journal through the Tulane Libraries. If there is no link, search the library catalog for the journal title, to see if Tulane owns it in another format.

Why did I get no hits when I clicked on search?

The Tulane Libraries do not own or subscribe to every book and journal listed in research databases. If you find that we do not have the item you need, you can request it via Interlibrary Loan.

I received an error message when I selected full-text. What do I do?

There are several possible reasons that errors might occur:

  • If the article is very new, it is possible that the publisher has not yet mounted it on their web site, so you will have to wait until this is done. Usually this will occur within a few days.
  • The TU Link links may be incorrect and need updating. Please notify us of any problems you may have so that we may resolve mistakes.

Why do multiple windows open when I use TU Link?

When you click on the TU Link button, a menu window is generated listing all the services available for that item. When you select a service, a third window opens with the service in question active. These windows are opened so that you do not lose the results from your original database search.

Why are there sometimes multiple links to full text?

There is some overlap in our many electronic journal collections and online databases, so you will find sometimes that full-text is available from more than one vendor.

When I click to go to full text, I am only taken to the journal's homepage. Why?

TU Link will bring you as close to the full-text as it can. Sometimes, the publisher's web site does not permit linking to the article level, so you are taken to the homepage or issue table of contents. You will have to navigate the publisher's site yourself to access the full-text. Essentially, a full-text link in TU Link means that full-text is available, but you may have to do some work to get to it.

Can I use TU Link from off-campus?

YES! Any Tulane student, faculty, or staff member can use the TU Link service from off-campus, via the proxy server. When you click on a TU Link button from off-campus, you will be automatically prompted to enter your Tulane ID (email username & password). If you have problems logging in, go to Accessing Resources for Off Campus for more information.

How can I obtain further assistance with my research?

The Tulane Libraries offer multiple types of assistance. We have a live chat service, you can email us your questions, visit or telephone the Reference Desk, or request a consultation with a subject specialist librarian. For more information, click here
