Listed below are new databases recently added to the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library electronic resources collection. Access to research databases and electronic journals is limited to current Tulane students, faculty, and staff. You may also be interested in our 2008 database purchases.

Aluka: African Cultural Heritage Sites and Landscapes

This collection brings together more than 30,000 digital objects of visual, contextual, and spatial documentation of African heritage sites and rock art sites. The materials include photographs, 3D models, GIS data sets, site plans, aerial and satellite photography, excavation reports, travelogues, and other scholarly research that will be of use to students and scholars in anthropology, archaeology, cultural studies, heritage preservation, and architectural studies. Documented heritage sites include Lalibela, Ethiopia; Timbuktu, Mali; and Elmina, Ghana. In addition, rock art sites cover over 30 countries across the continent.

Aluka: Struggles for Freedom in Southern Africa

This collection documents liberation movements in several southern African countries with access to more than 17,000 digital objects such as oral histories, speeches, nationalist publications, fully digitized books, journals, and pamphlets. Theses materials address topics such as colonial rule, dispersion of exiles, international intervention, and worldwide networks that supported successive generations of resistance within Southern Africa.

Titles range from Benjamin Franklin's General Magazine and America's first scientific journal, Medical Repository; popular magazines such as Vanity Fair and Ladies' Home Journal; regional and niche publications; and groundbreaking journals like The Dial, Puck, and McClure's. covers more than 1,000 titles from 1741-1940. Produced through partnership with the Center for Research Libraries, of which Tulane is a member.

C19: Nineteenth Century Index

Cambridge Histories Online

In November 1902, the first volume of The Cambridge Modern History was published and it established the genre of collaborative scholarly reference works. The original twelve volumes of the Cambridge Modern History were swiftly followed by the Cambridge History of English Literature, the Cambridge Medieval History, the Cambridge Ancient History and the Histories of India and the British Empire. A further wave of commissioning from the 1950s to the 1980s initiated the Cambridge Histories of China, Japan, Africa, Latin America, Islam, Iran, various Cambridge Economic Histories, and the revision and renewal of some of the original Histories. During the last decade further expansion has taken place, with Cambridge Histories of political thought, of literature and of philosophy all coming to fruition. This digital collection includes all 250 reprint and new edition volumes published by Cambridge since 1960, equating to around 196,000 pages of scholarship.

China: Trade, Politics and Culture, 1793-1980

Colonial State Papers (1574-1757)

This collection includes thousands of papers that were presented to the British Privy Council and the Board of Trade between 1574-1757, and that relate to the governance of, and activities in, the American, Canadian and West Indian colonies of England. Editions and Adaptations of Shakespeare

Editions and Adaptations of Shakespeare contains 11 major editions from the First Folio of 1623 to the Cambridge edition of 1863–66, twenty-eight separate contemporary printings of individual plays and poems, selected apocrypha and related works. In addition it contains more than one hundred adaptations, sequels and burlesques from the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, including the whole of Bell's Acting Edition of Shakespeare's Plays (1774).
