SciFinder Scholar

Choose Version:

Two versions of SciFinder Scholar are now available. In addition to the traditional client software download, a web edition is now accessible. Both versions provide access to the same information, but the web edition has some new functionality.

NOTE:

  • Only a limited number of people can use SciFinder Scholar simultaneously.  If you have difficulty accessing the database, try again at an off-peak time such as early in the morning or during the evening.
  • SciFinder Scholar client software may only be used on campus. Due to security restrictions, it cannot be accessed remotely using a commercial Internet Service Provider (ISP).  If you need SciFinder Scholar while off campus, try the web edition.

1. Web Edition (PC or Mac)

Step 1: Create Personal Account

 

Before using the web edition, you must create an individual account. You will receive an email confirming your user name and password, at which time you will have access to the database from your web browser.

New features:

  • Off-campus access when logged into the campus network.
  • Keep Me Posted Alerts - set SciFinder to automatically run a search when the database is updated every week, and email the results to you.

Step 2: Access SciFinder Scholar

2. PC Client Software Download

  1. Login to http://tulane.blackboard.com/bbcswebdav/xid-31516_1 using your Tulane ID.
  2. Download the zip folder SFS2007.ZIP containing 2 files - SFS2007.EXE and SITE.PRF
  3. Unzip the files and run the installer SFS2007.EXE. Follow the prompts to install the software.
  4. Move SITE.PRF to the same folder to which you installed the program (eg. c:\SFSCHLR\). Failure to complete this step will lead to a failed installation.

3. Mac Client Software Download

  1. Login to http://tulane.blackboard.com/bbcswebdav/xid-60076_1 using your Tulane ID.
  2. A popup window will appear.  Save the archive file “SciFinder Scholar 2007a.app.zip” to your computer.
  3. Move the file to your ‘Applications’ folder, then extract it.
  4. The installation is complete .  Double-click the SciFinder Scholar icon to start the program.
