Guest Borrowing

Guests and special borrowers are welcome to use the Library's General Collections and the Special Collections in Jones Hall. However, borrowing is restricted. Types of "Special borrowers" are detailed below.

All borrowers with Tulane library cards or reciprocal-, alumni-, and special library cards may request in-process and on-order items and may submit recommendations for new purchases. 

Loyola Faculty and Students

Loyola undergraduate students can borrow books from Howard-Tilton using a TU/LU card. Loyola students must request a TU/LU card from the Loyola library. The cards are valid through the end of each semester.  Loyola graduate students and faculty members must use a C.A.L.L. card, which is also requested from the Loyola library.

Faculty and Graduate Students in New Orleans

Faculty members and graduate students at other New Orleans universities may borrow books from Howard-Tilton using a C.A.L.L. (Council on Academic Library Liaison) card. Request this card from your university library. For a list of participating libraries, see the CALL libraries page. 

Faculty and Graduate Students in Louisiana

Faculty members and graduate students at other Louisiana libraries may borrow books from Howard-Tilton using a LALINC (Louisiana Academic Library Information Network Consortium) card.  Request this card from your university library. Lusher High School Students

Tulane has established a long-term commitment to and partnership with the Lusher Charter School. As part of this partnership, the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library works with the librarian and teachers at Lusher high school to offer borrowing privileges and other services to Lusher students in grades 9-12. For details, see the Lusher School Students and Teachers guide. Lusher students are allowed to check out up to 10 books at one time. They are allowed to keep these books for four weeks. 

International High School of New Orleans Students

Tulane has established a long-term commitment to and partnership with the International High School of New Orleans. As part of this partnership, the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library works with the librarian and teachers at International High School of New Orleans to offer borrowing privileges and other services to International High School of New Orleans students in grades 9-12. For details, see the International High School of New Orleans students and Teachers guide. International High School of New Orleans students are allowed to check out up to 10 books at one time. They are allowed to keep these books for four weeks.

Alumni

Tulane alumni may request an Alumni card, which enables alumni to borrow books from the library. There is a $50.00 annual fee for an Alumni card. Tulane alumni with alumni borrowing cards are entitled to most services and privileges except interlibrary loan, document delivery, mediated online searching, Microsoft Office and other licensed software, and off-campus access to research databases. To become an official Tulane alumnus, please contact the Tulane Alumni Office at 504-865-5901, or via email at alumni@tulane.edu.  

Subscribers

Anyone may purchase a Subscriber Card, which entitles patrons not affiliated with Tulane to borrow books from the library. All books are checked out for 28 days, and are subject to recall after two weeks. There is a $250.00 annual fee for a Subscriber card. Cards cannot be renewed until all outstanding fines are paid.  Please call the Circulation Desk at 865-5689 for more information. 

This card may not be used at the Law School and Medical School Libraries.  It also cannot be used to access online databases off-campus.
