Laptops can be borrowed from the Circulation Desk for use within the library. These laptops have wireless internet access, Microsoft Office software, and web browsers. For more information, ask at the Circulation Desk or call (504) 865-5689.
Laptop Borrowing Details
You must first fill out a Laptop Loan Agreement Form at the Circulation Desk. Every time you check out a laptop you must have at least two (2) forms of ID. We will accept:
- A Tulane University ID
- A Valid Drivers License
- A Passport
- A Tulane Card with a current barcode
You must also be in good standing with the library at the time of checkout.
Laptops may be checked up to four (4) hours at a time. If no one else needs the laptop it may be renewed for another four hours. Laptops are available on a first-come first-serve basis. No holds or recalls may be placed on a laptop. Laptops will not circulate one hour prior to closing, and must be returned one half hour before closing. Laptops may not be removed from the library or taken to the snack lounge in the basement.
The laptop currently available is the Dell Latitude C640. The laptop comes with a battery, USB ports, DVD-RW drive, a power cord, a wireless network card, a folder with information and a laptop bag. The laptop battery will be charged when you check the laptop out. The laptop has pre-loaded licensed software including: MS Office XP Pro package (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat Reader, Netscape, Internet Explorer, Telnet, WinZip, WS_FTP, and Uniprint (network printing software). Please note: the library does not provide assistance in using the software. Users are expected to be proficient in the use of Microsoft software.
Printing from the Laptop
Laptops come loaded with the Pharos software. To print you will need your Tulane ID.
- Once you save your document, go to File and Print.
- You will get a print window that indicates your print job will go to the laser printers in the library lobby.
- Click OK.
- You will then get a Pharos box prompting you for your document name. Name your document.
- Go to the printers in the lobby and swipe your TU ID. Print jobs will hold in queue for several hours
- DO NOT LEAVE THE LAPTOP UNATTENDED IF YOU GO TO THE PRINTER TO RETRIEVE YOUR DOCUMENT.
Saving Your Work on the Laptop
Save documents to a flash drive or CD. The Library is not responsible for any personal files left on the laptop or any viruses that may be transferred to or from your disk.
Laptop Replacement Costs
You are responsible for the laptop and its peripherals. NEVER leave the laptop unattended. If it is stolen, you will be charged a replacement fee. Never loan it to another person because you will still be held responsible for it.
