CLUE: Walk-In Research Workshops

The Center for Library User Education at the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library offers workshops on library research skills for Tulane students, faculty, and staff. Available workshops and their descriptions are below. With the exception of Library in a Nutshell and Finding Articles, workshops are arranged upon request and may be offered for one participant or for multiple participants who request the same day and time.

Faculty may request a session customized for their class by submitting the Library Instruction Request Form. If you have any questions, please contact us.

  • Finding Articles (1 hour)

    Go beyond Google and Wikipedia to find journal, magazine, and newspaper articles for your projects. Upon completion of Finding Articles, participants will be able to recognize the differences between free online sources and online library databases; differentiate between popular and scholarly sources; select an appropriate database for the information needed; effectively search a database; and locate the full-text of articles.

  • EndNote Basics (1-1/2 - 2 hours)

    The EndNote software can be used to create a personal library of citations and format citations into MLA, APA, or other styles for quick and easy creation of bibliographies. EndNote is a powerful tool for those engaged in extensive research projects such as dissertation writing. This workshop covers a basic introduction to EndNote for those with no previous experience.   • RefWorks (1-1/2 - 2 hours)

    RefWorks is a Web based citation management software available to Tulane students, faculty and staff. This tool allows you to save, format and include citations within your writing, using a word processing program like Microsoft Word. It functions in a similar way to EndNote, except that it is not necessary to buy a special license to use it and you can access your account from any computer with Internet access.
