If you need a book, CD or DVD that is already checked out, you have options for getting it. If you need the item quickly, you can recall it. If you have more time, you can place a hold on it.
When you recall an item, the patron who has the item is notified that the item has been recalled and must be returned. The item will be due ten days after the recall was placed. An item must be checked out for a minimum of two weeks before it can be recalled. You have ten days to pick up the item before it is returned to the stacks.
To recall an item, you can call the CHeck-Out Desk at (504) 865-5605, or online through Library Search or the classic catalog.
If you have an item that has been recalled, please note that you will be charged $1.00 a day in overdue fines, and your library privileges will be suspended until the item is returned. Fines accrue to a maximum of $20. Faculty members are also subject to recalls and to any applicable recall fines.
Items that are at the bindery or on reserve cannot be recalled.
In addition to recalling items, you can also place items on hold. Holds are appropriate for items that are due soon or overdue, or when you can wait longer than two weeks. Placing a hold prevents other patrons from checking the item out or renewing their loan. You can place a hold the same way you request a recall.

Then, click on the Sign-in link to log in to your library account.
The Hold option is selected by default. To recall an item, click on the Recalls link. Whether you're requesting a Recall or Hold, you need to select a Pickup Location. Uptown patrons should select Howard-Tilton Circ Desk. Patrons may also choose to pick up recalled items at the Matas Library of the Health Sciences downtown.
To recall an item or place the item on hold in the classic catalog, first click on the Make a Request link. You will be prompted to log in to your library account.
Then, click on "Place a Hold for a checked out item" or "Recall an item that is checked out".
Finally, enter your Splash Card ID or barcode, then click Submit.
