Hidden Treasures of Mardi Gras: Tulane Unveils Surprising Carnival Archive
Published
Ever wonder what secrets lurk in the archives of Tulane University? Tulane University Special Collections is pulling back the curtain on some of its most unexpected Carnival treasures with "We Have THAT???," a pop-up exhibit that promises to surprise even seasoned Mardi Gras enthusiasts.
The Carnival-themed collection features original float designs that once transformed imagination into the spectacle rolling down St. Charles Avenue, alongside glittering court regalia worn by kings and queens of balls past. Vintage throws, those prized catches from parades long gone, share space with rare ball invitations that once granted entry to the city's most exclusive Carnival celebrations. Historic photographs round out the display, capturing moments of revelry frozen in time.
But the exhibit offers more than a visual feast. Attendees can enjoy complimentary treats while taking in the collection, and there's the promise of "a big, creepy head" that's generating plenty of curiosity.
Join us on Wednesday, February 11, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in Room 430 of Howard-Tilton Memorial Library
It's a perfect lunch-hour escape for anyone curious about the hidden layers of New Orleans' most famous celebration.
