Learning Commons
The Learning Commons on the first floor is a dynamic, collaborative space featuring research, technology, and media facilities. It offers individual and group work areas, comfortable seating, high-speed wireless, printers, and accessible power outlets. HTML partnered with the Goldman Center for Student Accessibility to provide an Assistive Technology Workstation, where users can find the following resources:
- DaVinci HD/OCR Video Magnifier
- Kurzweil 1000 Screen Reading Software
- Kurzweil 3000 Screen Reading Software.
Research specialists and technology experts are available throughout the day and evening to assist students.
Study Commons (2nd Floor)
The 2nd Floor Study Commons provides opportunities for small group and individual seating. Choose from individual study carrels and larger workstations to spread out materials. One long countertop table provides the option for standing work.
All workstations in the area provide power outlets for students’ laptops or other devices. High speed wireless is available throughout the space.
Selley Study Commons (3rd Floor)
The Selley Study Commons is a quiet study space on the 3rd floor that offers work areas designed for quiet, individual study. The area was named in honor of Paul P. and Elizabeth Selley and the Selley Foundation, which provided the original funds to develop the space into a reading and study area.
Work areas include: traditional carrel seating, pod workstations (workstation seating in circular sets for single users), and individual lounge seating with built-in tablet arms.
Faculty & Graduate Carrels at Doris Stone LAL
The Doris Stone LAL has a limited number of carrels (small, private spaces) available for Latin Americanist faculty and graduate students who work in departments across campus.
Carrels are located along the perimeter of The Doris Z. Stone Latin American Library Research Center's open stacks, on the 4th floor Howard-Tilton Memorial Library. The carrels are for reading and research only and are not intended to provide office or socializing space.
Please note that carrels are assigned based on availability.

Group Study
Group work is encouraged in the booth seating of the 1st floor Learning Commons at Howard-Tilton. While no study spaces are reservable, small group study rooms are available on the 2nd and 3rd floors along the Dixon and Freret sides; these rooms are not soundproof, so please keep noise levels low. An additional group study room is located on the 5th floor, Dixon side. For quiet rooms suitable for online interviews, contact the Tulane Career Center. Please note, group work is not permitted in the Selley Study Commons on the 3rd floor...
Graduate Study Rooms
Those Rooms are intended to provide quiet study space for graduate students. Access to the spaces is controlled via Splash card, and seating is available on a first-come, first-servedthe basis rather than assigned.
- The entrances are located on the southwest and the northwest sides of the 2nd floor and 3rd floor.
- All Tulane graduate students, regardless of program, may use the rooms.
- Seats in the rooms are not reserved but are available to the user as long as they remain in them during available hours.
- The rooms are available during all library hours when the upper floors (2-6) are open.

Faculty Studies
- Applications for new faculty studies at Howard-Tilton Memorial Library are submitted online via the Faculty Study Application Form and are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Existing studies must be renewed annually by a specified deadline communicated via email to retain the study.
- Eligibility for faculty studies includes all full-time tenure-track and emeritus faculty on the Uptown campus, excluding those from Law, Business, and Medical Schools. Post-doctoral faculty availability can be checked on the application form.
- Faculty studies are designated for research and scholarship, not for office hours, storage, or personal use. Inappropriate use includes using studies primarily for storage.
- Due to high demand and a waiting list, faculty may need to share studies. Faculty members are expected to coordinate sharing arrangements independently and should note any preferred sharing partners on their application.
- For studies in the Doris Z. Stone Latin American Library & Research Center, indicate this preference on the application. If relinquishing a study, remove personal items, email htadmin@tulane.edu to schedule a key return, and note that unreturned keys or damages may incur charges. Personal items left behind will be held for 30 days.
Lockers
Lockers are available to any registered student on a first-come, first served basis. They are located on the 3rd floor. For more info, please see the Check-Out Desk on the first floor, or email circ@tulane.edu
