Tulane University Libraries consist of four physical locations across two campuses in one of the most vibrant and diverse cities in North America.
Parking
Vehicles parking on the uptown campus between the hours of 8:00am and 5:30pm, Monday-Friday, are required to display an annual parking permit, a daily parking permit or park in an hourly space. Failure to comply with parking rules may result in a citation. For additional parking information, call (504) 865-5441.
Visitors have several options when purchasing hourly, one-day, or multi-day permits.
Purchase one-day or multi-day parking passes:
- In the Campus Services office in the Lavin-Bernick Center, Suite 107. One-day or multi-day passes are valid in the Claiborne Avenue Lot and the Diboll Garage, third floor and above, excluding Reserved All Hours spaces and hourly spaces
- Online here. This option allows you to print your parking pass from anywhere
- Via the parking pay station located on the ground floor of the Diboll Complex and selecting "Stall 50"
Purchase hourly parking:
- Via the parking pay station located on the ground floor of the Diboll Parking Garage. The pay station accepts cash or credit card (no American Express). Hourly parking is available on the ground level or in one of the numbered spaces on the second floor
- Utilizing the ParkMobile app. ParkMobile spaces located throughout campus are marked with signage
Reserved All Hour spaces are clearly marked and should not be used by visitors without prior approval by the space owner.
Media Services
Media Services is located on the 6th floor of Howard-Tilton Memorial Library. The microfilm collection and music print collections are openly available for library visitors to engage with; however, the film and music recording collections are available upon request. Visitors wishing to check out media items may ask for them at the 6th floor Service Desk during our posted hours of operation.
Public Access Policy
The Howard-Tilton Memorial Library is a private library with public access whose primary mission is to serve the students, faculty and staff of Tulane University. Recognizing its value to the greater New Orleans community and its unique resources of broader interest, the library welcomes visitors and special borrowers, while expecting them first to have used their own school, public, or academic libraries. For more information regarding public access please see the library's Public Access Policy.
Take Public Transportation
Freret Bus - The Freret bus stops between Howard-Tilton Memorial Library and Jones Hall.
St. Charles Streetcar - Take the St. Charles streetcar to the Tulane University/Audubon Park stop. Walk through the academic quad between St. Charles Avenue and Freret Street, continue walking under Stern Hall, cross Freret Street at the traffic light crosswalk, turn left. You will pass the Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse, then pass Jones Hall (where Special Collections are located). The library will be the six floor building.
Accessibility
Howard-Tilton Memorial Library is always working to be as accessible as possible. Reducing barriers to information and improving access for all users is one of our core values. To that end, we work with the Goldman Center for Student Accessibility and Campus Services to identify ways to support library patrons. We offer the following services and access and are always open to suggestions for improvement.
Parking
There are four accessible parking spots directly in front of the building on Newcomb Place.
Building Entrance
Wide ramps lead to the entrance. Automatic doors open in.
Elevators
Elevators provide access to all floors. All elevators have Braille and tactile numbering and lettering both outside and inside each elevator.
Accessible Restrooms
An all-gender restroom is located in the basement near the student lounge and is fully wheelchair accessible with power-assisted door.
All restrooms have an accessible stall. Some have power-assist doorways.
