Study Spaces at Matas Library
24/7 Access
The Matas Library is open to all Downtown community members 24/7 unless the university issues an emergency closure. A Splash Card is required to enter the Hutchinson Building.
Group Study Rooms
The Matas Library offers five group study rooms and a computer lab/classroom, all equipped with whiteboards, network connections, power outlets, and seating. Rooms 2228 and 2230 on the 2nd floor Quiet Area seat 8-10 people. Rooms M201, M203, and M205 on the Mezzanine Level seat 4-6 people.

Room use and reservation policies:
- Reservations need to be made 24 hours in advance using the webform on our website under ‘Requests’. Those requests must be received by library staff Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
- Rooms can be reserved for a maximum of 6 hours.
- Single users can only book the mezzanine study rooms.
- If you leave the room for more than a few minutes, you need to take your possessions with you. The Matas Library is not responsible for lost, stolen, or broken items. Please utilize library lockers to store personal items.
- If you are an hour late for your reservation, you forfeit the room.
- Rooms are first-come, first-served if it is empty and have not been reserved. Time limits still apply.
- Please be mindful of others and fair in your use of the space.
Mezzanine Lab (M207)
The Matas Library Mezzanine Computer Lab serves as both a classroom and as a study area. 16 desktop computers are available for use. There are power, network, and projector connections available near the podium in front of the lab.
Please email medref@tulane.edu to reserve the Mezzanine Lab (subject to availability) for departmental/in-service testing, training sessions, presentations, etc. Please reserve M207 at least seven days in advance for in-service examinations.
Designated Quiet Areas
24/7 Quiet Area (2nd Floor)
All areas behind the glass walls, including group study rooms.
Mezzanine Level
Located on the lower Mezzanine Level, accessible via stairs left of the Circulation Desk and elevator in the staff hallway, this area features group study rooms, study carrels, whiteboards, and a variety of comfortable seating.
M207 Computer Lab (Mezzanine Level)
Functions as a classroom with 16 computers and as a study area when not in use for classes. Available for reservations for testing and presentations.
Commons/Lobby
The Commons area near the entrance of the Matas Library is available for collaboration and study. Please be considerate with phone calls and conversations. Remember to consider the privacy of patients and their families in your discussions.
A bottle filler, short-term lockers, a selection of current newspapers and magazines, and a television are available. Exhibit cases with items and topical displays of interest from the Matas Special Collections are also found in the Matas Commons Area. Social events may be scheduled for Homecoming, class reunions, exhibits, and other Tulane events in this area.
