Welcome to Juan Pablo Gómez, LAL’s new Research and Instruction Librarian!

Juan Pablo joined the LAL staff on May 18.  Hailing from Managua, Nicaragua, his many accomplishments and professional trajectory are welcome assets to the library’s collections and services.

Juan Pablo has solid interdisciplinary grounding in humanities and social sciences.  He holds a Ph.D. in Latin American Cultural and Literary Studies from The Ohio State University and an M.A. in Social Sciences from the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO).  He also brings extensive academic and pedagogical experience to the library, having served in teaching and research positions as well as in libraries and archives in Nicaragua, Guatemala, and the U.S.

As the LAL Research and Instruction Librarian, Juan Pablo works closely with library colleagues in other departments and with Latin American, Caribbean, LatinX and Iberian Studies faculty and students in support of collections, teaching and research at Tulane. He is already putting his expertise as a Central Americanist scholar to good use.  As part of a collaborative project with other member libraries of the LASER consortium of Southeast Latin Americanist research libraries, he is spearheading a project to build an information portal for Central America designed for open access by users around the world.

We are thrilled that Juan Pablo has joined the LAL, Tulane Libraries, and the Tulane community.
