Carlos Fernando Chamorro Barrios is an award-winning journalist from Nicaragua and one of the foremost investigative journalists of Latin America. The Chamorro Barrios Family Papers (1767-1997) is a substantial documentary collection (approximately 175 linear feet) relating to one of Latin America’s most influential families at the forefront of Nicaragua’s political and national life since the 18th century and contains a wealth of information on the modern history of Nicaragua. The collection consists of the personal papers of Pedro Joaquín Chamorro Zelaya, Pedro Joaquín Chamorro Cardenal, Violeta Barrios de Chamorro and Antonio Lacayo Oyanguren.
