Explore TUSC Through Video 

Tulane University Special Collections has an active social media presence including Instagram (@tuspeccoll), Facebook (Tulane University Special Collections), and YouTube. TUSC has more than thirty YouTube videos online that explore our exhibitions, collections, events, and highlights from our digital collections. Recent videos include:  

  • “Louisiana Sheet Music: A Digital Collection” celebrates TUSC’s digitization of its sheet music collection. TUSC preserves an extensive collection of sheet music that was published in or has topical relevance to Louisiana. Many local composers are represented, including Basile Bares, Eugene Chassaignac, Edouard Dejan, and Louis Moreau Gottschalk. It covers 100 years in the history of local publishing (1838-1938) and represents a wide variety of popular and vernacular music, including Creole songs, 19-century dance music, Mexican and Cuban danzas and danzon, ragtime, blues, and jazz.  
     

  • “Absolutely Unpredictable: Anne Rice in the City of Transgression” features highlights from our recent exhibition that celebrated the opening of the Anne Rice papers. The exhibition, which ran from October 27 through February 17, included more than 140 items from her papers and well as materials from other TUSC holdings that placed Rice within the context of the larger Louisiana literary tradition. 
     

  • “Tulane University Archives - Audiovisuals Collection” gives an overview of a new digital collection of archival films from 1931 to 1975 preserved by the Tulane University Archives. Topics include student events, athletic events, political protests and speeches, and publicity films created by students, staff, and professional filmmakers. 
     

  • “Bourbon Street, 1944-1952 - A Digital Collection” reviews a new digital collection of over 200 photos of historic Bourbon Street. The photos represent a small portion of the Walter Cook Keenan New Orleans Photographs Collection, which numbers over 3,000 images. Walter Cook Keenan (1881-1970), the first architect of the Vieux Carré Commission (VCC) and a lifelong member of the Audubon Park Commission, took the photographs to document changes to the built environment.  

 

  • “Understanding Mold in Special Collections” In collaboration with Alan Velasquez, the library’s Media Production Unit Coordinator, Erin Kinchen-Addicks and Jennifer Waxman have created a training video to help staff and students understand, identify, and address mold outbreaks. It spans prevention, health and safety, mold identification, response, and recovery and is an interesting and informative video for anyone interested in better understanding what is often a significant problem in our region.
