Tibetan Sacred Arts Tour Returns to Tulane with Green Tara Sand Mandala

The Rudolph Matas Library of the Health Sciences is honored to host the Tibetan Sacred Arts Tour by the esteemed monks of the Drepung Gomang Monastery. From March 10 to March 14, 2025, attendees are invited to witness the meticulous creation of the Green Tara (Dol Jang) Sand Mandala on the library's second floor.

Event Schedule:

  • Opening Ceremony: Monday, March 10, at 10:30 AM
  • Mandala Creation: March 10-14, daily from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Daily Closing Prayers: March 10-13, from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM
  • Dissolution Ceremony & Procession: Friday, March 14, at 2:00 PM

This event offers a unique opportunity to observe the ancient art of sand mandala construction, a practice rooted in Tibetan Buddhist tradition symbolizing impermanence and the intricate nature of the universe. The Green Tara mandala specifically represents compassion and enlightened activity.

Handcrafted items will be available for purchase throughout the event, with proceeds benefiting the Drepung Gomang Monastery. While registration is encouraged, all are welcome to attend. RSVP: The Tibetan Sacred Arts Tour - Tulane Libraries Calendar - Tulane University

Location: Matas Library, Conference Room, 2nd floor, Tulane Medical School

This event follows the successful sand mandala creation hosted in February 2024 at the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library, where the monks constructed a Chenrezig Sand Mandala. The 2024 event drew significant interest from both the Tulane community and the broader New Orleans public, fostering a deeper appreciation for Tibetan culture and Buddhist practices.

Don't miss this chance to engage with a profound cultural and spiritual experience.
