Celebrating People: Keith Pickett & Courtney Kearney
We are proud to feature two outstanding library employees who were recently promoted into new roles.
Keith Pickett
We’re pleased to announce the promotion of Keith M. Pickett from Coordinator of Research Services and User Resources to Director of Matas Library of the Health Sciences in July 1, 2022.
Keith’s library journey began as a student worker at Nicholls State University while earning his undergraduate degree. While working as a Document Delivery Associate at the LSU Health Sciences Center Library in New Orleans, he earned a Master of Library and Information Science from Louisiana State University. His first professional librarian role was as Digital Initiatives Librarian at the University of New Orleans. In 2010, Keith began his career at Tulane and Matas as a Research Support and Education Librarian. In 2016, he added supervisory duties for the Circulation and Interlibrary Loan operations as well as managing subscription-based resources for Matas.
Keith's support of the research enterprise at Tulane has led to the Matas Library's increased involvement with the Tulane National Primate Research Center and partnership with the Tulane Meta-Analysis Systematic Review Support (MARS) Program. He has authored or co-authored numerous published works and has served on several committees throughout the campus community. In addition to his work at Tulane, Keith has held leadership roles in the Medical Library Association (MLA), South Central Chapter of the Medical Library Association (SCC/MLA), South Central Academic Medical Libraries consortium (SCAMeL), and the Health Science Library Association of Louisiana (HSLAL).
Courntey Kearney
We’re pleased to announce that Courtney Kearney has been appointed the inaugural Director of Scholarly Engagement at the Tulane University Libraries. Courtney began her new role on April 1, 2022.
Courtney stood out among a strong pool of finalists for her combination of experience, education, strong ties with faculty, and collaborative style. Her success with data management and her pivotal role in the LabArchives and Globus projects made her background particularly attractive as the university launches the Data Hub and focuses more intensely on the whole of the research lifecycle. She brings a unique mix of fresh perspectives and inside knowledge of Scholarly Engagement that helps us build a team to support student and faculty success across all of Tulane.
Courtney came to Tulane as Scholarly Engagement Librarian for the Physical Sciences in 2017 and later added data management to her portfolio. She was an intern with us during her MLIS program at LSU prior to joining us full time. Before becoming a librarian, Courtney worked as a postdoctoral fellow and research oceanographer at the Naval Research Laboratory, Stennis Space Center, in Hancock County, Mississippi. In addition to her MLIS, she holds a PhD in Geology from the University of Bristol (UK) and an MS in Geology from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. Her bachelor’s degree (also in Geology) is from the University of Georgia.
Among her accomplishments here at Tulane, Courtney helped to organize the Southeastern Data Librarian Symposium (2019) and both iterations of the Faculty Author Spotlight, which is one of our most successful faculty outreach programs. In addition to her work on campus, she has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library and currently serves as its vice-president.
