The Doris Z. Stone Latin American Library and Research Center invites applications for the Jim and Penny Morrill Research Grants to support travel to New Orleans and lodging expenses in spring 2026.
Established through the generosity of Dr. Penny C. Morrill, these grants support scholars, writers, artists, journalists, and independent researchers in the humanities and social sciences whose projects will benefit directly from the Doris Stone Library’s collections. The Morrill Grants are intended for short-term visits to New Orleans to consult materials at the Center, with awards of up to $1,500 available.
Eligibility
The grants are open to applicants of all nationalities and professional backgrounds, regardless of place of residence. Applicants who permanently reside within 150 miles from New Orleans are not eligible. To be considered, projects must demonstrate a clear and direct connection to the collections of the Doris Z. Stone Latin American Library and Research Center.
Further Notes on Disbursement and Other Logistics
Payments operate on a reimbursement basis. Applicants are responsible for their own logistical arrangements and must submit valid receipts for the expenses to be funded within one month of concluding the grant period. In the case of applicants who permanently reside in other countries, the Doris Stone Library and Research Center makes no arrangements for visas or other types of permits to enter the United States.
