Meet TUL Search: A New Way to Explore the Tulane Libraries

Published

search bar for finding articles, books, databases, and more.

A new search experience is coming to Tulane University Libraries. TUL Search, the next generation of our Library Search, will make it easier to discover books, articles, digital collections, and other library resources through an updated interface and an improved search experience.

TUL Search will launch soon as a beta option, giving our community a chance to explore the new experience and share feedback as we continue to refine it. The current Library Search will remain the default throughout the fall semester while we work toward a full transition.

Why the Change?

TUL Search is built on Primo NDE (New Discovery Experience), the successor to the original Primo application, which is being retired. Think of it as an under-the-hood upgrade that also brings a fresher, more streamlined experience for everyone who uses the libraries' resources.

What's New

One place for your library account. Loans, requests, fines, saved records, and search history now live together in a single user area, replacing the separate Library Card and Favorites pages. You can still email records to yourself or others.

Search tools that are easier to find. Quick filters above your results put options like full text, peer-reviewed journals, and open access right where you need them. Journal search now includes autocomplete based on the journals the libraries have activated. Advanced search has also moved from a dedicated page to a convenient pull-out panel, so you can refine a search without losing your place.

Better access for all users. NDE includes documented accessibility improvements over the previous interface, particularly for keyboard and screen-reader users. The video player also offers additional caption options, making digital media more usable for more people.

A better way to explore digital collections. An improved viewer for digital assets makes it easier to browse, discover, and view unique materials from our collections.

A fresh, on-brand look. TUL Search features an updated color palette, new thumbnails, and a cleaner design aligned with Tulane's branding.

Behind the Scenes

TUL Search also gives the Libraries richer engagement analytics, delivered in report form. These insights will help us understand how our community uses library resources so we can keep improving the tools and collections that matter most to you.

Whether you're a first-year student hunting for your first peer-reviewed source, a researcher digging into digital collections, or a faculty member managing course materials, we think TUL Search will make your work a little easier.

Try TUL Search today and help us shape what comes next.
