Tulane University Libraries Unveils New Website as Part of Strategic Visual Identity Overhaul
Two-year, community-informed project delivers modern digital hub to enhance research, collaboration, and user experience.
Tulane University Libraries today announced the launch of its new website, a cornerstone of a comprehensive visual identity renewal designed in partnership with the international design firm Mubien. The site will go live the week of December 15, 2024, culminating a strategic, two-year initiative to better serve students, faculty, staff, and the global research community.
The project directly supports the libraries' strategic goal to Elevate Visibility and Collaboration, transforming its digital presence into a clear gateway that emphasizes its role as both an academic sanctuary and a global destination for interdisciplinary research.
"This is more than a redesign; it's a renewal that reflects our work as Tulane's essential knowledge partner," said Lindsay Cronk, Dean of Tulane University Libraries. "Our new website and visual identity are tools to strengthen our connections across all campuses—Uptown and Downtown—and to showcase the incredible people and expertise that make our libraries a vital resource. We are creating a modern, intuitive digital space that reflects the innovation and collaborative spirit of Tulane."
Key features of the new website include:
-
User-Centered Design: Built with a mobile-first approach, intuitive navigation, and a clean aesthetic to make discovering resources more efficient.
-
Community-Driven Development: The project was grounded in extensive user research, including focus groups with students, faculty, and staff at the outset, ensuring the final product meets the real-world needs of the Tulane community.
-
Highlighting Library Expertise: The site structure shifts focus to the librarians and specialists who provide core services, making it easier to connect with expert help.
-
Aesthetic Inspired by New Orleans: The new visual identity, which the website embodies, draws on typography reminiscent of the city's iconic jazz culture, blending historical charm with academic prestige.
Background:
The launch of the Home | TU Libraries website is the public-facing culmination of a partnership with Mubien, which also delivered a full suite of updated brand guidelines. The project's goal was to move beyond an outdated digital presence to one that actively facilitates discovery, partnership, and unconventional research in alignment with Tulane University's broader vision.
