Tulane University Special Collections (TUSC) is pleased to announce the processing and finding aid publication of the George G. and Jacqueline V. Mallinson collection (HJA-096).

This collection contains materials intended for an unfinished 1972 documentary film about New Orleans jazz elders. It includes reel-to-reel audio tapes and photographs of interviews with musicians Josiah "Cie" Frazier, Percy Humphrey, Willie Humphrey, Nathan "Jim" Robinson, and Ernest Roubleau.

The collection also includes research notes and a written proposal for Before They’re Gone, the film project led by Dr. George G. Mallinson, founder of the Department of Blindness and Low Vision at Western Michigan University; and assisted by Jacqueline V. Mallinson, a professor of science education at WMU; and past Hogan Archive curator Richard Allen.

Because the Mallinson collection consists of audiovisual materials that require reformatting prior to access, users interested in listening to the reel-to-reel audio tapes may request digitization via the TUSC AV Digitization Form. More information about AV digitization requests is available on the “Duplication, AV Digitization & Permissions” page of the TUSC website.

For more information, contact Melissa A. Weber, curator of the Hogan Archive of New Orleans Music and New Orleans Jazz at TUSC, via mweber3@tulane.edu or 504-247-1807.
